Oscar für Octavia Spencer: berührendes Drama um drei mutige Frauen in dunklen Zeiten. - Jackson, Anfang der 60er: Die junge Journalistin Skeeter kehrt von der Uni in ihre Heimatstadt zurück. Hier sind auch lange nach Ende der Sklaverei schwarze Hausangestellte wie Aibileen und Minnie (Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer) ihren weißen Arbeitgeberinnen hilflos ausgeliefert. Skeeter will die schwarzen Frauen in einem Buch von ihrem Leben in Unterdrückung berichten lassen. Doch das brächte nicht nur Skeeter in große Gefahr.
