Deep-sea fishing is hard labor, on European ships increasingly being done by seamen from Asia. In Ireland two German ships were detained: In one case the Indonesian fishermen received only 800 euros a month; in the other, there were several contracts per crew member with widely varying wage levels. The fishermen had to work up to twelve hours a day, sometimes for a whole year without a day off. The German authorities apparently see no problem in this.
