Chizuru kommt auf der verzweifelten Suche nach ihrem Vater in die Hauptstadt und gerät dort gleich in lebensbedrohliche Schwierigkeiten ... Kann sie sich aus ihrer misslichen Lage aus eigenen Kräften noch befreien?

Episode 2

Aus dem Choshu-Spion Furutaka konnte die Shinsengumi wertvolle Informationen bezüglich der Pläne der Kaisertreuen herauspressen. Doch nun ist Eile geboten! Denn die Kaisertreuen planen bereits ihren nächsten Schlag gegen das Shogunat.

Kondo muss mit seinen wenigen Männern alleine das Ikedaya stürmen, ansonsten könnten die konspirierenden Choshu-Ronin entkommen und das Hauptquartier der Shinsengumi überfallen. Chizuru hat zwar Hijikata und seine Männer benachrichtigt, aber werden sie noch rechtzeitig eintreffen, um Kondos Trupp retten zu können?

Episode 4

Der Vorfall im Ikedaya ist überstanden und die Zahl der Opfer in den Reihen der Shinsengumi hält sich in Grenzen. Jedoch ist die Organisation nun stark geschwächt und Kodo-san immer noch nicht gefunden. Schließlich stößt ein einflussreicher Neuzugang zur Truppe ...

Episode 6

Within the Shinsengumi, distrust of Ito's faction is increasing, and Nagakura Shinpachi's irritation with Hijikata for not saying anything grows. Around the same time, there's a string of incidents in which the shogunate's edict boards that stand along the roadsides in the capital are pulled out of the ground. The Shinsengumi is ordered to guard them. Later, Harada Sanosuke receives a cash reward for successfully protecting the edict boards. He and a group of like-minded members set out to go drinking. In high spirits, they head for their destination not knowing that Hijikata is waiting there.

Episode 7

Saying that he'd received an appointment to guard the royal tomb with the Goryo-eishi, Ito has left the Shinsengumi. Saito and Todo have joined Ito, leaving the Shinsengumi in pieces. One night, a soldier who has been turned into a rasetsu attacks Chizuru. Hijikata charges in and manages to save her by a hair's breadth, but something strange happens to Sannan. At the same time, Kazama Chikage and his cohorts raid the Shinsengumi headquarters. Kazama approaches Chizuru. What could his objective be...?

Episode 8

Thanks to Saito, who had hidden himself within the Ito faction, the Shinsengumi have information that Ito is planning to assassinate Kondo. Hijikata orders Nagakura and Harada to go and kill Ito and the rest of the Goryo-eishi. And, if he stands against them, to cut down Todo as well. Chizuru speaks up out of worry for Todo, but Hijikata doesn't listen. Then, one night, the Shinsengumi and the Goryo-eishi finally confront each other. Amidst the fighting, Nagakura and Harada run into Todo, but...!

Episode 9

The shogunate orders the Shinsengumi to move their headquarters to the Fushimi Magistrate's Office to combat the Satsuma and Choshu factions. A few days later, Kondo is shot on his way back from attending a war council, leaving him on the verge of death. The news makes Okita drag himself, weakened by his illness, to Sannan's rooms. Day by day, the battle with the Satsuma-Choshu forces grows fiercer, and the Shinsengumi is made to feel the disadvantage of their inferior numbers. Amidst all of this, Hijikata comes to a decision.

Episode 10

The Shinsengumi have decided to retreat from Fushimi. Chizuru and Inoue Genzaburo have headed toward Yodo Castle to request reinforcements, but on their way there, Chizuru's father, Kodo, who had been missing, suddenly appears in their path. Their reunion moves Chizuru to tears. She asks him why he disappeared, and what he says in reply horrifies her. While Chizuru is still in shock, Kazama appears and tells her a cruel truth. She is stricken with despair, and just as she is about to kill herself, Hijikata arrives.
