Inhaltsbeschreibung
Die Sendung ist ein soziales Experiment mit 16-20 Kandidaten aus allen Bevölkerungsschichten. Sie werden in der Wildnis ausgesetzt und müssen dort überleben. Die Teilnehmer werden auf verschiedene Stämme aufgeteilt und treten in Wettkämpfen gegeneinander an. Es können Belohnungen gewonnen werden, die das Leben vor Ort verbessert und Immunität, die den Stamm vor dem Verlust eines Mitglieds schützt. Der unterliegende Stamm muss am Ende jeder Folge eins seiner Mitglieder wählen, das die Insel verlässt. Beim "Merge" werden die verbliebenen Mitglieder der Stämme zu einem Stamm zusammengefasst und in den Wettkämpfen geht es nun um individuelle Belohnungen und Immunität. Die letzten zwei oder drei Kandidaten kommen vor die Jury. Nach dem Merge herausgeworfene Kandidaten und die Jury entscheiden über den Sieger des Titels "Sole Survivor" und des Preisgelds von 1 Millionen US-Dollar.

Sixteen contestants row two rafts to the jungle island of Pulau Tiga in the South China Sea. Once there, they divide into two tribes (Pagong, Tagi) and go head-to-head in an Immunity Challenge called “Quest for Fire.” The contest requires the tribes to light a series of torches in the water while holding onto a raft. The losing team attends Tribal Council and votes out one of its members.

Generational difficulties arise, as do conflicts over varying work ethics, as the castaways try to adapt to life on the island. “Buggin' Out,” the Immunity Challenge, involves eating live beetle larvae. The first tribe member who refuses to eat the squirming grubs loses Immunity for his or her tribe.

Episode 3
The two tribes desperately search for food and compete in a Reward Challenge that requires them to drag a sunken treasure chest to shore. The winning team receives fishing equipment. “Rescue Mission” is the Immunity Challenge. The tribes must rescue an “injured” player out in the jungle and bring him or her back to the beach on a stretcher. The third contestant is voted off the island.

The contestants endure a powerful storm, replete with high winds and lightning. For Immunity, the castaways participate in “Buried Treasure,” a relay race that includes digging up a treasure chest. A fourth person is voted off the island.

Episode 5
Conflicts arise among some teammates when their food supply runs low. The contestants participate in a Reward Challenge using blowdarts, slingshots and spears to win fresh fruit and live chickens. The Immunity Challenge is “Shipwrecked.” A fifth person is voted off the island.

Episode 6
The tribes compete for Immunity on an obstacle course built by Green Berets, and the winning team then has to retrieve the Immunity Idol from Snake Island; the contestants are tempted with a domestic food not normally associated with humans; one team's chemistry implodes after losing a Reward Challenge; one of the men makes a rude comment about women that affects life on the island; a sixth person is voted off.

In Week 7, the Tagi and Pagong tribes merge into one, with a person from each tribe attending a summit meeting on the sand spit to determine at which camp they will live. Also, the contestants compete in an underwater swimming event for Immunity; and a seventh person is voted off the island.

The contestants participate in an archery competition for a videotape from home. Later, in the Immunity Challenge “End of the Line,” they race through the jungle following a rope course; an eighth person is voted off the island.

The contestants participate in a Reward Challenge for a barbecue by swinging along a rope course. For Immunity, they become pieces on a huge board game called “Squared Off.” “It's the equivalent of playing chess with eight people,” says host Jeff Probst. Also, one of the contestants celebrates a birthday “by running around in [his or her] birthday suit all day long, which causes a lot of excitement,” says Probst. And a ninth person is voted off the island.

The castaways participate in “Fast Fire” to earn Immunity, which requires them to build a fire on the beach. “Bamboozled” is the Reward Challenge, in which the seven tribemates must race on bamboo structures over the ocean. The winner gets to make two calls on a cell phone. One is to order a slice of pizza that's delivered by helicopter; the other is a call home. The 10th person is voted off the island.

Sixteen contestants arrive on a military airplane in Queensland and immediately form two tribes---Kucha and Ogakor. After a five-mile hike to their respective camps, the tribes compete on an obstacle course for Immunity and waterproof matches. The losing tribe then attends Tribal Council and votes out its first member.

Jerri accuses Kel of eating contraband beef jerky, which he denies. In the “Butch Cassidy” Reward Challenge, the players jump off a cliff into a pool of water, swim to a floating crate and carry it ashore to win blankets. “Tucker'd Out” is the Immunity Challenge. The tribemates eat aboriginal foods (“bush tucker”), such as cow brains, grubs, grasshoppers and mangrove worms. However, Kimmi, a vegetarian, refuses to join in. Later, the second person is voted out of the game.

One Survivor is appalled when a nest of ants are served up for dinner in a tribe desperate for protein. Lacking any sympathy for ailing tribemates, one Survivor starts complaining about the weak ones being lazy and getting pampered. The heat and rigors of the Guatemalan jungle have deteriorated many castaways, who must find the strength to get through a grueling physical competition. Leading into the second Tribal Council, one Survivor fights back when their work ethic is questioned by tribemates.

Episode 3
Smoldering heat forces some Survivors to cool off in the water, risking an encounter with crocodiles. As a tribe attempts to rebuild their shelter, one member takes matters into their own hands and irritates the others. Causing sleepless nights, an inconsiderate howler monkey drives one castaway crazy. A termite-infested log becomes a delicacy for some castaways desperate for a change in their diet.

In an unexpected twist, members of the two tribes are shuffled. While one Survivor dangles his feet in the crocodile-infested waters, something nibbles on his toes. A very close Immunity Challenge leads into a tense Tribal Council that could end with a tie or a major betrayal.

Episode 5
When pounding rain takes its toll on a tribe, one member voices frustrations by calling out some of the others. An incredible Reward is won after one castaway blazes through a Challenge. One self-absorbed Survivor annoys the tribe with endless stories of a glamorous life beyond Survivor.

Episode 6
After winning an arduous Reward Challenge, one tribe member ruins it for the rest by becoming intoxicated and obnoxious. A grueling physical challenge pushes two castaways to the breaking point, leading to a screaming match that comes close to exploding. In a Tribal Council first, one castaway bullies and insults a fellow tribe member despite attempts to keep the peace.

Fear threatens to ruin one castaway's ability to enjoy a reward. An unexpected visit from the opposing tribe makes some of the other castaways uncomfortable about being friendly with the enemy. A heart to heart ends with one Survivor telling another, "You can lie...But, I will track you down. I will find you!" After a difficult Tribal Council, the castaways are bombarded with another big surprise.

Survivors learn that there is an Immunity Idol hidden in the Guatemalan jungle, and the hunt begins. Given the choice to feast or challenge, several castaways choose to enjoy a large feast in front of the others instead of competing for Immunity. Is this a smart move, or will their hunger be their demise?

One Survivor deceives the others by giving them the wrong clues to where the hidden Immunity Idol rests. Several Survivors become angry after one overindulges in a Reward. One Survivor secretly follows a tribemate on a hunt for the hidden Immunity Idol and soon finds out that the tribemate is not to be trusted.

In a down-and-dirty struggle for Reward in the mud, a team is let down by the failure of one member. One tribemate's incessant paranoia drives another to the breaking point. Some feel vulnerable, and some feel sure of who should go, leading to an unpredictable Tribal Council. Will the strong survive, or will the weak slide by?
