Nach 10 Jahren im Ausland kehrt der Chirurg Kazuaki Okita an das Danjo Memorial Hospital zurück, um die Herzoperation des Klinikdirektors Toranosuke zu übernehmen.

Okita prepares for Mifuyu's surgery. When Okita’s father Isshin has a heart attack, Hamura offers to operate, but Isshin insists that his son do it.

After Mifuyu's surgery is postponed, Masao agrees to operate on a government minister and says he will operate on Mifuyu himself if it’s a success.

Denounced by Toranosuke and the others, Masao leaves the hospital and disappears. Okita continues preparing for Mifuyu's operation without him.
