Im Mittelpunkt von Rita Rocks steht Rita Clemens eine fleißige und gestresste Mutter und Ehefrau. Ihre Zeit muss sie zwischen dem Job, den sie nicht besonders mag, der Versorgung der Kinder und dem Führen des Haushalts aufteilen. Rita war einst Leadsängerin einer Coverband der Bangles. Ihr Leben spielte sich in Rockclubs ab. Sie macht ihrer Familie klar, dass ein paar Stunden in der Woche Zeit für sich brauche, um sich wieder für ihre Leidenschaft zu begeistern – das Singen. Nachdem sie in der Garage eine alte Gitarre findet, entschließt sie sich, zusammen mit ihrem Nachbarn, der Postbotin und dem Freund ihrer Tochter eine Garagen-Band zu gründen. Doch das bedeutet zunächst: noch mehr Stress!

After Rita gets passed up for a promotion at work, she starts to question who she is and starts a garage band to capture the spirit of her younger days.

Rita skips out on Shannon's karate lesson to jam with the band and lies to Shannon about it. When Hallie exposes the truth, Rita tries to make it up to Shannon by buying her a dog. Meanwhile, Kip is determined to stay in the band against Hallie's wishes.

Rita tries to help out Patty with her love life, but with no avail. Elsewhere, Rita and Jay become angry when Hallie and Kip plan to get tattoos.

Much to Rita's dismay, Hallie and Kip become vegetarians.

Familienalltag und Gitarrenrock - zwei Gegensätze, die sich anziehen! Und jetzt auch noch Babyalarm?! Rita geht mit ihrer 16jährigen Tochter Hallie zum Arzt, um mit ihr Verhütungsmethoden durchzusprechen. Dort macht sie eine überraschende Entdeckung... Und nicht nur das! So trennt sich Hallie, von ihrem Langzeitfreund Kip. Da der aber als Bandmitglied auch Bestandteil von Ritas Leben ist, sorgt die Trennung ebenfalls für Streit zwischen Mutter und Tochter.

In the second-season opener, Rita takes Hallie to the doctor to discuss birth-control options. But Rita's in for a shock when she discovers she's pregnant.
