The Bidding Room

Nigel Havers welcomes five more sellers to the Bidding Room, where they try to sell items to professional dealers who are on the lookout for interesting pieces, with help from expert Simon Bower. First through the doors today is Dave, with a set of small brass tools that flummox Simon and Nigel. Inherited from his grandfather and used to make model yachts, the decorative tools are violin maker's planes. But will such specialist pieces lead to a tuneful profit for Dave when he faces the dealers? Next to chart a course to the room is Alan, who grew up a stone's throw from Leith Theatre. With him, a ship's lamp he rescued from the Glasgow factory he used to work in. Now he's selling the decorative glass, brass and copper piece to raise money for the local lifeboat station. But will he sail away with a tidy deal? Third to arrive is Rebecca with 'Arthur the Duck', who she purchased whilst backpacking around Rajasthan in India in the 90s. Simon believes the bird may be a merganser duck that could have been made any time between the 1920s and the 1980s. With a strong collectors' market for ducks, will the dealers be flocking to place the winning bid? Our next arrival is Andrew, who has lovingly restored a set of Edwardian servant bells. Planning to donate the money raised to his local church, can he ring up a good deal when he enters the room? Last to arrive at our Leith Theatre base is Bessy. No stranger to a theatre, she is selling a set of footlights and spotlights and hopes to use any profit towards community drama projects in her home city of Newcastle. But can Bessy light up a bidding war when she faces the dealers? The dealers are Ian, Viki, Jacqui, Jo and JB.
