Fils unique d'une riche famille, le petit Edgar, 10 ans, n'a qu'une passion : la botanique. Son jardin, c'est sa vie, son refuge face au peu d'intérêt que ses parents semblent lui accorder. Son petit monde va cependant se trouver bouleversé par l'arrivée d'un intrus : Anibal, petit péruvien de cinq ans que ses parents ont décidé d'adopter. Une initiative qu'Edgar voit d'un très mauvais oeil, ce qu'il ne tarde pas à faire savoir à ce faux petit frère. Mais un jour, Anibal est pris d'une terrible crise d'asthme et c'est Edgar, en l'absence des parents, qui doit lui porter assistance. Une absence qu'il lui incombera de combler de plus en plus souvent jusqu'à ce que, petit à petit, de profonds liens unissent les deux garçons autour d'une même passion : celle des fleurs.
