Alger, 1993. Début de la guerre civile. Portraits d'Algéroises sous le couvre-feu. Mme Osmane est une Arabe en tailleur Nina Ricci et lunettes Christian Dior. Propriétaire d'une villa à Alger, son " harem " est constitué d'un petit groupe de locataires, hommes et femmes, sur lesquels elle règne en despote. Hantée par la peur de perdre sa respectabilité, l'ancienne maquisarde de la guerre d'indépendance s'acharne à contrôler les faits et gestes de sa maisonnée plutôt que de lutter contre ses propres frustrations.
