Der amerikanische Regisseur Bob Swaim drehte hier einen typisch französischen Polizeifilm. Unmöglich, sollte man denken, aber Swaim hatte mit Richard Berry, Nathalie Baye, Philippe Leotard und Maurice Ronet vier erstklassige, typisch französische Hauptdarsteller zur Verfügung. Das Quartett, das u.a. mit Regiegrößen wie Louis Malle, Claude Lelouch und François Truffaut gedreht hat und Bob Swaims actionreiche Regieanweisungen mit französischem Flair ausfüllt, macht "La Balance" zum sehenswerten Krimi.
