1920. Jean Rezeau et son frère aîné vivent heureux à la " Belle Angerie ", le château de famille. La mort de leur grand-mère provoque le retour d'Indochine de leurs parents et sonne le glas de leur enfance... Paule Rezeau, la mère, digne héritière des sorcières de contes de fée, prend le pouvoir à la " Belle Angerie ". Son époux ne le lui dispute guère, plus occupé par la chasse aux insectes que par l'éducation de ses enfants. Corvées, punitions et privations absurdes se succèdent pour le bien des enfants, jusqu'au jour où Jean fait le choix de la révolte. Il dresse ses frères contre cette mère qui ne sait pas les aimer et fait régner un climat de guerre civile cocasse et terrible...
